Experiences you will treasure

  • Immersing yourself in this celebration of all things sewn, quilted, patchworked, embroidered and knitted. Pour l’Amour du Fil, or 'for the love of thread', is an annual showcase attracting over 120 international needlecraft artists exhibiting more than 800 antique, traditional and contemporary textile works. With three full days at the show, our programme allows you plenty of time to see the exhibitions, browse the many enticing textile stalls and take part in the busy programme of over 100 talks, practical workshops and demonstrations. The theme for 2021 is The British Isles and, while the line-up of invited artists is still in development, the event always attracts an impressive roster of names, so inspiration is guaranteed.

  • The opportunity to be 'in conversation with' one of the talented textile artists exhibiting at Pour l'Amour du Fil. We will confirm who this will be soon!

  • Discovering Nantes, a lively and innovative city with a rich cultural heritage. You will be staying right in the city centre and we have arranged for a local guide to take you on a fascinating two hour walking tour through the historic centre highlighting special points of interest for you to return to at your leisure. Don't miss the Château des ducs de Bretagne, a flamboyantly Gothic 15th century ducal residence hidden behind 500 meters of curtain walls punctuated by seven towers. The city’s other great architectural gem is the Cathedral St. Pierre. Built in the 15th Century and still an active place of worship, it boasts an impressive collection of exquisite, contemporary stained glass windows. The recently refurbished Musée d’Arts de Nantes is home to one of the finest art collections in France. The permanent exhibition contains over 900 works ranging from the 13th to 21st Century, so whether your taste is for Tintoretto, Rodin, Monet, Delaunay or Anish Kapoor, there is sure to be something here to delight and surprise. Nantes lies on one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world and so we recommend that you make time for an  'Estuaire' boat trip. This 2 hour 45 minute journey is quite the best way to see the rich wildlife preserves, huge industrial buildings and maritime heritage sites that make up the region's unique landscape. And of course, no one should miss The Grand Elephant. One of several robotic animals who roam at the Machines de Ile, this famous elephant stands 12m tall and is made from 45 tonnes of steel and wood. If you would like to take a ride, you need to book tickets here.  Places go fast, so do book well ahead.
