Cool Down .... Celebrating Innsbruck's Magical Christmas Markets

Innsbruck's Christmas Markets

As the temperatures rise, why not take a cooling break from the sunshine with our celebration of Innsbruck's magical Christmas markets?

Innsbruck was made for Christmas. In the historic Old Town, tree lights sparkle against the glistening tiles of the Golden Roof, the air is filled with the aroma of freshly made “Kiachln” (piping hot doughnuts laced with Sauerkaut) and the town’s pretty streets bustle with festive markets.  Here are our top three.

Old Town Christmas Market

Located in front of Innsbruck’s best-known site, the Golden Roof, and surrounded by medieval facades, Old Town Market is the place to go for Christmas ornaments, handicrafts and other winter treats. Keep yourself warm with a mug of Glühwein  – and a Kiachln of course - while your mingle with the locals.

Christmas Market Maria-Theresien Strasse

If you’re looking for contemporary Christmas designs, then this is the market for you. Running along Innsbruck’s main shopping street, the stalls offer a dazzling array of contemporary festive decorations and souvenirs.

Panorama Christmas Market on Hungerburg

Specialising in culinary delights and Christmas souvenirs, this market is a little further out of the city, but the journey is part of the experience. Accessed via a new funicular railway known as the 'Hungerburgbahn', the eight-minute trip takes you past spectacular futuristic stations designed by the late Zaha Hadid. And as you disembark at the fourth station, Hungerburg, you will be greeted by the spectacular panoramic view the market is named after.
