A Sensational Sustainable Holiday in the Swiss Alps

A Sensational Sustainable Holiday in the Swiss Alps

We are committed to creating fabulous holidays that are good for both people and planet and our newly opened holiday to the Swiss alpine village of Arosa delivers on every level.

The Incredible Eco Hotel

Valsena hotel arosa mountains alps switzerland

The 4* Superior Valsana Hotel & Apartments is proof that luxury and sustainability can go hand in hand. Inspired by nature and its beautiful setting, the Valsana has outstanding (and award winning) eco credentials.

As part of the Green Globe* certified Tschuggen Collection, Valsana has been 100% climate neutral since 2019. Much of this has been achieved by updating infrastructure and through the smarter use of resources, with any remaining emissions off-set to support dedicated projects including rewilding alpine wetlands and supporting the Virunga mountain gorilla project in Rwanda.

Valsana was built as a hotel for the future with sustainability at its core. Constructed in 2017, its electricity comes courtesy of the local hydro-power plant and the heating system is one of the most environmentally friendly in Europe - the hotel uses geothermal probes and captures waste heat from other appliances and activities that's then stored in the ice battery until it's needed.

Priority was given to sustainable materials too. For example, much of the wood – including the panels in the lounge and the bedroom chairs, was upcycled from the old building and the landscaping that surrounds the hotel is a bio-diverse lawn featuring a house for wild bees.

Inside, the sustainability of every detail has been considered. In the bedrooms, guests sleep on 100% natural Elky Natur mattress and the Nespresso Coffee Pods are sustainable and recycled after use. In the bathrooms, organic Swiss brands Nooii and FAIRCosmEthics products come in re-fillable containers and reminders to re-use towels are printed on glasses rather than paper.  In the public areas, the lights in the corridors and vestibules react to motion sensors, the bars are plastic straw-free, all the food is locally sourced and seasonal where possible, the wines are European, while the water is sourced in Arosa.

(*The Green Globe is awarded to companies in the tourism and events industries whose corporate approach targets the respectful and economical use of resources.)

The Sensational Sustainable Transfers

train Swiss alps arosa landscape

We are taking you Zurich to Arosa by train, and here’s why:

The service is reliable! Official statistics for 2022 put punctuality at 92.5%, with punctuality defined as within three minutes of the scheduled arrival time.

The system is easy to use – even if you have to change onto another train or a bus! The timetable is integrated across the country to make connections quick and easy - the average wait for a connecting train is no more than 10 minutes – and it is aligned with other forms of public transport too, so if you arrive at your destination and need to take a bus, there will be one.

The trains are clean, comfortable, and accessible!

The scenery is spectacular! The journey from Chur to Arosa is a single gauge that winds up the mountain, setting the scene for this Alpine holiday.
